AC On But Blowing Hot Air In Charleston, SC

It’s 100 degrees outside, late on a weekday afternoon; humidity is stifling.

You’ve just come home after a very long day from work.

Your family’s there, your pets are waiting for their afternoon treat.

You’re about to settle in for dinner and a quiet night when you start to feel a bit warm and sweaty.

Your family starts to mention how warm they are as well, so you go and check your thermostat.

The temperature on your thermostat states it’s a little warmer than usual, so you turn it down a few degrees.

You hear your AC kick on and in no time you should be feeling nice and cool again.

Except a few minutes later you notice your home’s not getting cooler – it’s actually getting warmer.

You stick your hand over your air vents and… uh-oh – your AC has kicked on but it’s blowing warm air.

Here’s what you should do next:

1. Don’t Panic

When your AC goes out it’s easy to feel vulnerable and even a little insecure — things that can give you anxiety.

Take a deep breath and don’t panic — it’s a very, very common thing that happens this time of year, so you’re definitely not alone.

2. Setup Some Fans & Get Some Cool Drinks

To help keep your family cool in the meantime try to setup some fans and turn on ceiling fans, if you have those.

While this won’t keep them 100 percent cool, the moving air should help keep them cool for a bit.

On top of this, take out some ice cold water, soda or whatever your family’s beverage of choice – this should help them keep cool as well, while you move to step 3 below.

3. Give Your Local HVAC Company A Call

While there are some DIY things you could try to help get your system back in order (like checking the air filter), it’s generally best to have a professional come out and take a look at your system to have it repaired.

DIY fixes can sometimes lead to even bigger issues, so having a trained, licensed professional can help you not only get your system back up and running quickly, it can help you avoid any further damage.

4. Setup A Preventative Maintenance Plan

While you have your HVAC technician there, it might be wise to ask about a preventative maintenance plan for your system.

Preventative maintenance plans generally come with annual visits that allow your HVAC company to catch problems before they start – and help you avoid any potential warm days ahead.

Whether you live in Goose Creek, West Ashley, Johns Island, Mount Pleasant or any of the other excellent landing spots in the Lowcountry, there will be times when you run into the “AC blowing warm air” issue.

By following some of the steps above, you and your family will be living a bit more comfortably again.

Stay cool, be kind – and reach out to your Lowcountry Local HVAC company if you need more help fighting off the heat this summer.
