Moving Into A New Home This Summer? Here Are Some HVAC Related Items To Put On Your Move-In To-Do List
You’ve just bought a new home in this beautiful corner of South Carolina we call home in the Lowcountry.
You’ve hired local movers to help you pack and transport your household items and are now ready to start unpacking.
Whether you’re moving to or from West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Goose Creek, or anywhere else in the Lowcountry, this is a very, very exciting time for you and your family as you start the next chapter of your life.
However, as you’re starting to unpack you notice that your home is unusually warm – and getting warmer – despite your air conditioner being on its highest setting.
While you made sure to do your due diligence on the condition of your HVAC system before moving in, your system still gave out at the worst possible time.
You’re going to be faced with an even longer – and much more uncomfortable – few days of unpacking.
So what can you do to help prevent this from happening?
Below are some HVAC related items you can put on your list ahead of your move – and if you run into any issues while you’re moving in this summer.
1. Recruit Your Own Local HVAC Company For An Inspection
If you haven’t found a local, honest HVAC contractor in the Charleston area, recruiting one to help you inspect your system before your move in can be a great way to have your own source of information about the system.
Especially if your new home doesn’t have any records on the HVAC system work history, hiring an AC company can help you identify – and verify – any existing flaws or weaknesses in your system.
2. If Trouble Ahead, Get An Estimate For Replacement Unit
If your HVAC company does spot some issues that can’t be cured with quick fixes or smaller repairs, it might be a good idea to snag an estimate for a replacement unit.
This can especially be the case if your system is running up in years (or improperly sized for your home), but it can be a good idea to start the next chapter of your family’s story with a clean HVAC slate.
3. Sign Up For A Preventative Maintenance Plan
If your system is in good condition after your local AC company checks it out, that would be a great time for you to sign up for a preventative maintenance plan.
Preventative maintenance plans can come with many perks, but typically included a few annual visits (ahead of summer and winter seasons) and reduced pricing on parts, among other features.
This will help safeguard your system each year and may help you stay ahead of the typical replacement timeline for most systems.
4. Ductless Mini Split Options For Warmer Areas Of Your Home
As you were evaluating home options, there’s a good chance that you weren’t in your new home long enough to realize some warmer spots/areas.
It’s an easy thing to miss, as there are likely other aspects of your home that have your attention.
It might be something you may not notice until you fully settle in, but if you do have some warm areas, ductless mini-splits can be a great option (especially if there isn’t ductwork running to those areas).
They also offer granular control — allowing you to really fine-tune your comfort settings in those areas.
The next chapter in your family’s history should be a memory you have for a lifetime.
Memories like that should be special – and one that doesn’t include a side-story about your HVAC system going out.
With a little attention to your HVAC system during your move-in, that memory can be a bit more pleasant this summer.
