The Definitive Guide to HVAC Installation, Designed For Lowcountry Families, Part 3: Post-Installation Care
With your local HVAC company picked out (thanks to Katy) and your new heating & air system chosen and installed (thanks to Travis), up next you’ll move on to post-installation care.
It’s often the forgotten step in the HVAC system installation process – taking care of your system after your HVAC team wraps up at your Lowcountry home.
Very often the need for a new system can start with a homeowner (or their HVAC company) not taking very good care of their system.
Without proper care & maintenance, you might end up shortening your systems’ lifetime – in some cases by years.
Knowing this, it might be difficult for you to understand what you’ll need to do to help extend your systems’ lifespan – especially in the Lowcountry’s brutal summers (and sometimes very cold winters).
To help you and your family get started, here are some items you can add to your post-installation care list this year.
1. Post-Installation Inspection
If you followed Katy’s guide mentioned a few weeks ago about choosing the right HVAC company, you’ll likely have picked out a great team to help you with your installation.
For many of those companies – including My Three Sons Heating & Air – you’ll get a post-installation inspection.
This is where a member of the company’s leadership team visits your home to inspect your installation.
This helps ensure that not only you’re happy with your installation crew, but a high installation standard is met.
If your system isn’t installed properly, it could lead to issues you don’t want, so a post-installation inspection helps button things up as you transition from your old system.
2. Setup Thermostat Programming Or Smart Controls
Something your HVAC tech might help out with, you can now start setting up your specific comfort settings for your home.
From scheduling your system for a certain temperature, to programming it to run at a lower setting when you’re away from your home you can fine tune and personalize to your family’s personal preferences.
3. Regularly Check & Clean/Replace Your Filters
Another item your HVAC technicians might walk you through, regularly replacing or cleaning your air filters is must.
With how often our systems run in our weather here in the southeast, your system is going to be pushing a lot of air through that filter.
The more air that pushes through that filter, the more it’s going to accumulate.
Clogged up filters can cause your system to run less efficiently, as it has to work a little harder to push that air through.
4. Sign Up For Regular HVAC Maintenance
Like any electronic or mechanical system – like your car or truck – your HVAC system needs regular maintenance and tune-ups.
Electronics can wear out just as well as different mechanical parts can, so you can often catch and replace those to get out ahead on any major issues by scheduling regular maintenance for your system.
5. Sit Back, Relax & Enjoy Your Lowcountry Lifestyle
With your system in place, inspected, customized and a maintenance plan in place you can now sit back, relax and enjoy your Lowcountry lifestyle – a bit more comfortably this year with your new system in place.
Whichever local HVAC company you choose and whatever system type you end up installing here in the Lowcountry, we want you and your family to stay cool and comfortable in 2025.
And if you follow these post-installation care tips above, you can increase your odds of enjoying that comfort for years to come in the Charleston area.
